Hello M3 forum. Here goes my first post. My M3 kit has gone together well so far. I need some help recognizing the UNO board. I'm running Windows 7 SP1. My kit was shipped on December 30th. Is there a driver I can download that will allow me to run Win 7 SP1 with the UNO board that I received? Thanks.

Hey rcflyersc. It's a little more work on Win 7 but not too big of a deal. Most of the time this will work: Download the zip file that I've uploaded and UNZIP it. DOWNLOAD THIS: Old_Arduino_Drivers.zip (16.62 KB) Now follow these instructions for how to manually select the driver you need. www.drivereasy.com/knowledge/how-to-manually-install-a-driver-in-windows-7/***On step four, your are looking for the one called "COM port" or "COM 2" or something similar. ***on step six, go to where you unzipped that attachment you downloaded and try Arduino Uno REV3.inf. If that doesn't do, try Arduino UNO.inf. Also ignore the part that talks about Driver Easy software. Don't download Driver Easy. You don't need it, I'm just pointing you there because it has screenshots for what you need. That should get ya, but if not I'll probably get ya to download the Arduino IDE (click here) so it will get you some more drivers installed. Let us know if you need anything else.

Great! It worked. I now show a new active COM3 communication.
Can you please help me understand a variation between the Assembly manual 1.06 and 1.08? 1.06 states that I need to use Xloader to get a preconfigured Grbl program onto the UNO board. 1.08 states that this is already done. With my UNO being shipped in the last days of December, which manual should I follow for the Grbl step before mounting the driver board? Thanks

Glad it worked. Grbl will already be loaded on your board, so no need to try to load it with X Loader.

Thank you. I'm new to CNC routers so I am erroring on the safe side.
Your kit is amazing. I have enjoyed the ease of the build except for two steps. The aligning and tightening of the belts truly tested my limited patience. Then using needle nose pliers to hold the nuts for the corner brackets was difficult. The other 99% of the build has been great. I'm really looking forward to seeing what all this tool can do. Thanks again.

I use a med size set of hemostats or kelly clamps, depending on which school of re-purpose you attend. The clamps have a lot of flex and they lock on the nut well. Like having an extra hand. g

Thank you for the kind words and for the input on the challenges you encountered. It always helps to get some perspectives to try and improve where people get held up. I really think you weren't alone on those two points. I think everyone spends a little time on belts and most everyone spends some time on the corners. I think I need to do a better job of communicating some of my tricks on the corner brackets in the instructions because I don't have too much trouble with them.... though I've built a lot of this model. Thanks to n9xwp for the input as well. rcflyer: was there any particular trick you used to get passed those parts of the build. Side note: I have made this thread a sticky for anyone else who gets curious about Win 7 installs. Derek

Hi Derek.
No tricks just persistence. I'm still not sure if I have the belts aligned to where I need them. They still rise slightly on the pulley for the X and Y axis. Max of 1/8" and then settle back on the return movement. I'm worried that I still do not have enough tension on the Y axis belt. Just need to get some time to analyze more.
Having fun with the build and really looking forward to making some dust soon.

I am getting a message "No Serial Port Found" when launching GRBL with a laptop running windows 8.1. Do I need to manually download the Arduino Uno driver also?

Nevermind. The answer is yes, and I just downloaded it. Sorry.

Glad that got put to rest in short order. I've seen this happen one other time on a Win 8 computer if I remember right and it was just a matter of doing what you just did.

Came here to ask about win7 drivers and bam first thread!
Regarding people having trouble getting the nuts into the corners... are they bigger now? I got a Craftsman socket on them no problem except for one instance.

No, not bigger. You can put a socket on them if you have the right kind. Some are too big bodied to get in there, especially once one nut is set. We show it being held by needle nose for those that have that problem.

Hi. COMBS. Did you right click the folder and till it to unzip? The drivers are contained in that folder. You have to point to the driver using device manager by following the instructions in the link in my post above. Basically, that will show you how to make Windows understand that you want to use one of those specific drivers to establish communication with the board. Windows seems to be finicky about drivers.
