It's good to try all the free stuff out there and that way you can find what suits your sensibilities the best. FreeCAD is a very good parametric solution and they have a forum and good help. LibreCAD is free and open source also but it is 2D only - which you'll find is useful for many things. The down side of these programs is they do not include CAM or rendering programs. A good inexpensive and easy to use CAM program is Estlcam - but I don't recommend using their controller. Desktop Proto is excellent and offers a basic free CAM package and several others at reasonable rates. A good rendering program is SimLab - they have a free version. Autocad Fusion 360 is a very powerful CAD program that has lots of documentation, an online forum and excellent features. Included is a rubust CAM section as well as a very nice Rendering section. It may be useful to learn the difference between parametric and NURBS modeling - I'm using MoI3D now for 90% of modeling which is a NURBS based program rather than parametric. It is writen by one of the original designers of Rhino CAD - but at a fraction of the cost. Once you find something you like - stick with it - any good CAD program takes years to master.
