Just received the M3 this morning. It arrived very well packaged with no signs of damage. One small bag of hardware had split a seam so I found several nuts bolts and washers loose in the box but everything was there and no damage.
I have everything laid out and have the edges of the MDF sealed with the 50/50 glue/water mixture.

I sealed the MDF edges with the 50/50 glue/water mixture then coated all sides with shellac. The table got 2 coats of shellac and then sanded. I'm going to leave it like that and make a cover piece for it. The sides were finished with the truck bed black. I have a little mini PC doing nothing so I will use it to feed the g-code. I have to let everything dry overnight so assembly will start tomorrow!

The M3 is a great machine, I think you'll enjoy it. Have fun with the build.

I'm looking forward to you showing off some projects when you get it together.
On a different note, that's probably the first pink lathe I've ever seen. (Your avatar pic). What is the story behind that?

What is the story behind that? The pink lathe was an attention grabber on display at IMTS 2018. I had to have a picture with it!

Didn't get a lot of time to work today but I did get the Y axis assembly completed. Had to adjust the rails a bit to get them parallel but they came in pretty easily. Just checking with calipers but I think there within about 0.05mm Everything looks square and moves freely! Attachments:

Thanks for all the pictures Charleyann. This is very helpful to us when we try helping others troubleshoot the M3. (And we don't have an M3 to look at ourselves, like me) 👍

The x-z plate assembly went together pretty well. I had a couple of arguments with the belt but I eventually won! I did find that the bolts that were supplied for the 400W spindle mount were to short. The M6x55 did not go all the way through the plate. I picked up some 65mm long bolts which turned out to be a bit to long. Had to add a couple of washers behind the bolt heads.

I used a carpenters speed square to do a rough alignment of the x-axis assembly. I'll fine tune it when everything is running and I tram it in.

Frame is all assembled. I was very happy that it came out square without any tweaking! Starting to look like a machine! I have a full day to work on this tomorrow so hopefully I'll have things moving around by the end of the day! Attachments:
