I was wondering what advance settings y’all are using on the window to generate your G-Code on Easel. I am more curious about the step over percentages. Below is a picture of my settings. Should I go lower or higher than 40% step over for rough cuts and lower or higher than 1% for the v-bit step over percentage? Thank y’all!

I would just try it and see if you like the outcome. If not, make some adjustments.

I haven't used Easel, but those look like pretty typical settings that are used in other software such as Vectric.

I use Easel all the time. The settings I use are: 9 mm Safety Height, and 0% on the others. All my work comes out great.

Can someone explain to me what those settings mean? Also, I've read several posts saying to never run your CNC straight from Easel. Rather, save your g-code, then run it through UGS so you preserve your settings. Are any of you running straight from Easel? And if your running your g-code through UGS, wouldn't that make all these advance setting in Easel obsolete? Just a total newb here, and I've decided to try Easel, and it's been decent enough for what I've used it for, but I'm not totally confident I'm doing everything right.

Easel is the software product by Inventables which also makes the X-Carve cnc machines. So if you connect Easel to the Carve King, run the g-code program from Easel, it will replace the GRBL settings in the Carve King with the settings for the X-Carve machine. This is a problem.
Easel is a multi function software that will design (CAD), create the tool path (CAM), and send the g-code to the machine. You can use the CAD/CAM part of the program. Just not the g-code sending part.
The GRBL settings can be seen in Universal G-code Sender in the console by typing $$ and <enter> You can check your settings with the list at the end of the Carve King Assembly Manual.
Safety Height is a setting that tells the Z axis (with the tool-end mill), what height is safe to start, move to the next position, and stop. It really depends on the work piece requirements and the clamping of the work piece. You don't want to crash the end mill into a screw of a clamp.

I live in Chicago and just met with the CEO of Inventables and director of product experience for Easel. Was giving them some insight into my experience with Easel, and talked in detail about why I went with Millright instead of X Carve etc. When I brought up this exact scenario to them, they said it was impossible for Easel to overwrite the firmware inside the Carve King.
However, they did say that the machine would need to be changed in the settings, and that the settings you are alluding to may also need to be changed in Easel. They have this setup for the M3, but I am getting them to add the Carve King to the menu as well. I'll be keeping in touch with Andrew who runs Easel, and provide some assistance to make Easel better for those of us without an X Carve.

Interesting! thanks for the feedback. I personally have never used Easel but there are quite a few MillRight users that do. That would be great if they would add the Carve King! 👍
