Soundproof Enclosure build

Cutting metal is loud so I built this soundproof enclosure since I do most of my CNC'ing late at night.

Results are like night/day, I can barely hear it at all!

great idea and you should get a fruit basket from the neighbours and not one of those cheap ones thats mostly pineapple. also I would love to see a short vid of of it in action

Great idea. I work for an audiovisual company that has a whole bunch of those pluck away foam pieces for pelican cases. I'll probably have to do something very similar to this. Living in an apartment right now.. haha

The box is 26" wide 19" tall and 32" deep.

Made from 3/4" Plywood and mdf (whatever scraps I had in the shop)

Weatherstrip seal on the door seams.

Since the box is "air-tight" the vacuum near the mill actually closes the door shut and keeps it locked so I leave it open a crack just to let air circulate in.

i have been thinking about using a plastic container. 26 3/4 x 17 5/8 xs11 5/8 and using roll on sound liquid deadener. my table is only 18 inches wide it would fit in the container. would the roll on liquid deadener work in side of the and what type should i use ? trying for the cheapest and would a fan mounted on the container be of some use. or would it defeat the purpose.

Richard, I'm not sure a plastic bin will work to quiet down the noise. I used 3/4" solid MDF wood and that really helps keep the noise in. I used this as my sound deadener www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012AVX5HQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and the studio foam.

how long do you keep the machine in the sound proof box ? when running it must get hot in there. i would worry that it might catch fire. how do you see what's going on ?

I ran it for 2 hours yesterday and everything stayed very cool. I'm using the 400W spindle that has a cooling fan built into it so that helps I guess. I'll have to wait until mid summer when it gets HOT here in the midwest but I don't think there will be any problems.
