Carve King owned by the local makerspace has been functioning beautifully. It's an impressive machine. Recently for no reason other than perhaps me remarking to someone how well it had been doing on a complex 3 hour 3D carve, it went off path. Ultimately diagnosed it to have gotten 3/8" out of square, which was corrected. test jogging it found the following unusual behavior. When using UGS to jog the machine one inch forward or backward on the y axis, the left Y motor is starting out turning in the wrong direction, then correcting and turning in the right direction. The result is that the left and right sides of the X rail get out of square and eventually the machine binds and misses steps.
The machine had been working well up until then. We had made no recent changes and it hasn't been put into official service so use has been light. This machine was donated to the makerspace and I have no history on it but with a little tuning we have been able to make some nice carves in decent time.
I made this video of it, mostly because I thought but wasn't positive that it was turning both directions when told to go one way but it was hard to be sure. Video leaves no doubt. That's clicking the Y+ (I think if that's the one that brings it foreward) button 1 time.
Wondering if anyone has seen this or has any ideas. Appreciate any help!

Not Seeing the video. Could there be some binding someplace? Maybe loosen the couplers and pillows for Y Axis, run the machine, then tighten it all back up? Also maybe check the backlash nuts or the V-Wheel eccentric nuts to ensure nothing is crazy out of whack and causing some odd tq on the motor?

Agreed, It's something binding on that Y axis. Maybe the couplers are slipping? Other options would be the Stepper Driver starting to flake out, or least likely, the motor is having and issue.

youtu.be/-jnEXUg80AUSorry. Not sure what happened with the video link. It should be above. The video is what happens when the machine is jogged one inch in one direction (toward the front on the Y axis) with one keypress in UGS. It is binding, but it's binding AFTER one of the Y stepper motors, when jogged 1" in one direction, first goes a little bit in the other direction, then reverses. The opposite motor does not seem to do this. It's always the same one of the Y steppers. Possibilities so far: Loose wiring (checking that) stepper driver Stepper motor If anyone thinks of anything else, please post. I'll be running these down and let you know if we figure it out. Thanks for all your help!

Hmm, odd indeed. Is there any way that this motor is getting some EF from something? I would check a couple of things:
- check the jumper is in place on the Driver Board (under the driver). - check the mounting of the 'other' jumper for the y Axis (since we use two drivers/motors for one axis on the CK). - verify connector is correct direction on the driver board - after this, I would separate the motor wires from all other wires, plug it back in and see if the symptoms continue.
Since this is not your machine, there could have been a seemingly small change to the position of drag chains/wires that could push/pull something out of whack, leading to this behavior.
Others might have more insight as to CK specific troubleshooting.

It would be good to see what both Y axis motors are doing at the same time. But if one motor is turning in the opposite direction from the other momentarily before going in the right direction that looks like a control signal to the motor is off. I think your list looks like the right direction. Is the motor holding torque ok? With power on and the motor not moving, it should be hard to turn the lead screw of either Y axis.
