I just connected the CNC to my Hackintosh and have X, Y, and Z movement! I still have to install the Homing switches and tidy up the wiring, but I wanted to see some movement and so here it is. Thanks to all who gave advice to get me to this point. Video of First Movement of X, Y, and Z

First run with a Sharpie attached (not very well).

Cool. I saw a preview and thought "my god what is wrong with it", then I saw the part about the sharpie. Glad it's moving along. I see sawdust in your future.

LOL, yeah, I need a way to mount a sharpie so it won't move. Got any ideas? Also, Easel was dead simple to use but I worry about having a cut interrupted if the internet goes down. (I'm connected to Wi-Fi form my house.)
What are some good, stand-alone solutions? I have UGS but can't figure out how to convert a simple txt file with Gcode in it into something that UGS will load. I keep getting "ont" errors.

I don't have any good recommendations for holding the sharpie with that particular mount. You could probably mill something or 3D print a solution for that.
I'm not sure why UGS is having a problem loading a .txt file. I've never seen an "ont" error.
Maybe check out Grbl Panel.

I pasted some Gcode into TextWrangler and saved that as a .txt file and UGS opened and fed that to the CNC with no issues, so maybe it was the text editor I was using to save the file. Also, I came up with a rudimentary solution to holding the Sharpie. It's pretty high tech and I better not see anyone ripping off my design! Attachments:

Glad that got worked out.
Nice sharpie holder. I always say the simplest solutions are the best!
