Hello All,
I registered to this forum April 2019. I read a lot on this forum and some other CNC forums prior to buying the King-Carve Black Starboard. I liked the construction, size, technical support and price. But apparently, I have forgotten most of what I've read. I did some CNC work in the late 60's and probably forgot most of that. I'm a retired federal employee and still working as a contractor for the government. I can't wait to get the King-Carve running. Currently, have some technical difficulties with the King-Carve. But that will pass....

Hi, Philip here, I ordered my M3 this week and I am looking forward to getting it.
I need to make some modifications to my shop where I plan to use it, and although I found the dimensions for the M3 somewhere on the website I can't seem to find them anymore.
I'll be building a dedicated workspace with the possibility of creating a complete enclosure with dust collection down the line. I'd like to know what the footprint of the M3 is, even if it approximate, so I can prepare for its arrival.
Thanks
P

Here is a picture of the M3 I had sitting on a 2' by 4' table. I wanted enough room for the PC and other items. Has worked out well with both the M3 and Carve King. Attachments:

I was perusing this thread, trying to remember if I ever introduced myself (I'll do that in a moment JIC) and came across Jeff and his BBQ contest judging hobby: Lately my hobbies are collecting as well -- pottery, wood working, and BBQ contest judge (it's a great gig if you can get it!) are my current favorites. To our resident BBQ Judge Jeff, If you ever want to try a BBQ sauce that is VERY different than almost every bbq sauce around, I'd be honored to send you a bit of my next batch of Samurai Sauce. The recipe is my own, formulated after having made about 20 different recipes from all around the US (in order to learn more about how each regional style was made) and then creating a base concoction that represented some of my favorite flavor notes found in 3 regional styles and of course tweaked more than parametric EQ knobs in a tweaker's home music studio. Over the course of two years I made adjustments, and put it out there with my competitive BBQ, as well as various BBQs (including at an EDM festival I was already at to perform as a DJ). When I finally hit the flavor I wanted just right AND a large portion of those who tried it gave it enthusiastic reviews, I locked it down. I'm always interested in hearing what people who aren't somehow already connected to my BBQ in some way have to say about it. Message me privately with your address and I'll send you a bit. Hell, if any of you want to try it, message me and I'll figure out how to get it to you and anyone else interested in a way that doesn't break my finances (mason jars and shipping CAN get expensive lol). This is not intended as an advertisement, and if the admins consider it to be one, please let me know and I'll change the post.

Interesting S. Ronin McGowan I've never thought about comparing mixing music to mixing BBQ sauce but that is a good analogy.

Hello all, Here's my official introduction. I'm Sherwood McGowan, a jack of all trades, master of few. I work a lot in the Voice Over IP field as an engineer and solutions consultant, but I also have quite a few side "hustles". Currently, I'm working on a commercial drone pilot certification and license, learning milling with the M3 setup (with DW611), and trying to get my Davinci Pro 3in1 3d printer to work decently. I've always been good with my hands and building things and/or modifying them has always been a part of my life.
I have an artistic background as well, including playing/recording/producing music, and visual arts and tattooing. While I don't have a CAD background, I did quite well in mechanical and architectural drafting, and my long history of graphic program use doesn't hurt either.
I can't wait to really get smooth with the M3 and start producing some of my crazy ideas including expanding the X/Y/Z capabilities of my little M3, milling parts for a few little projects I have in mind, and building a laser cutter for my M3 using the basic DIY laser from a DVD burner method. Those are all just the beginning!
Great to officially introduce myself and I've loved my interactions with all of you so far!
Cheers mates!

Hello my name is Jim. I am a field supervisor for a small, new home construction company. I am a complete rookie at CNC. I purchased the carve king to help with carving my rustic American flags. My build is complete, but now I am lost and I need some guidance on where to go next. I have watched some of the videos and I have downloaded fusion 360 and universal G code sender. Is there a simple app that I can use to help build my design file for fusion 360? Thanks for any help Sincerely, very lost.

Hi Jim, Congrats on your new Carve King build. When I started out I used F-Engrave for simple V-Carving. I think it should fit the bill doing flag graphics. www.scorchworks.com/Fengrave/fengrave.htmlA black and white bitmap (.bmp) file can be used. Any black areas will be carved and the white area will be left alone. Much easier to use compared to Fusion 360.

Bruce,
Thank you for the information on F-engrave. I did my first carve (a flag union with an infantry badge). It carved out nice, but the stars only carved the outline. The stars were solid black. How do I get it to carve the entire star?
Thank you
Jim

Jimgam, When you click "Calc V-Carve" you will see the dialog box pop up "Executing V-Carve". There is a small box that you can check, "Plot During V-Carve Calculation" and you can watch the area to be cut fill in. You may have an extra vector line or space that is messing with your cut calculation. You should see where your problem is here.

Hi All I just wanted to give a status update. I have completed the build of my M3 and I'm very happy with how it turned out. As a complete CNC noob, there has been a lot to learn and its been lots of fun. Th This weekend I completed my first end-to-end workflow. From designing in F360 to editing the G-code file to cutting on the CNC. photos.app.goo.gl/gUGxzh464dsr24fR6My next steps will be to work through the calibration of the X and Y. Philip
