Just finished the assembly of my M3 and everything went together great. Downloaded the Universal Gcode Sender Version 1.0.9 and keep getting the error message "GRBL has not finished booting" when I try to type in $$ in the command line and also get the same messege when I try the manual controls. I know it must be pilot error, any suggestions would be appreciated Thanks in advance Ron

Thanks. That talks about reflashing grbl which should already be preloaded on the board. Not sure I wanna try that route. I'm sure it's something stupid I'm doing.

I run into this occasionally when updating GRBL or UGS. I usually pull power, unplug the USB and restart it all. Usually does the job.

Please see the PM I responded to for reflash procedures if Aforww's suggestion doesn't do it.

So when you're updating grbl, you're reflashing the software onto the board each time?

No I believe he thinks it could be a firmware issue by reflashing the board it may solve the problem that your having. If you come to point that you have to reflash every time then a new board will probably be needed
( disregard my post , Aforww is correct )

So when you're updating grbl, you're reflashing the software onto the board each time? Exactly. Every update is a wipe and reflash. Then, go in using $$ and double check and change settings. Don't sweat reflashing GRBL. It's a straightforward process.

also have you tried a different laptop and cable printer cable if you have one , I know every one doesnt have these things laying around but if you do may be worth a try ( also if this has been suggested sorry to repeat a already tried method)

I think I understand what you all think is happening here. Terms I'm not too familiar with are firmware and flashing. I did some quick research on them. So when you originally install the firmware or grbl onto the arduino, you have to" flash" the software onto the board? Then, if I want to update the firmware, I can just download updates to that board? Trying to understand the whole process. My background is mechanical, not computers.

Trust me, I'm not one of these IT guys either lol. When you flash GRBL to the board, that's you installing it. In order to update it with a newer version you have to download the newer version and reflash it using the directions provided by Derek. But the version you have is a working version so I don't suggest upgrading until you get the hang of the CNC process and what all the software does and how they play together. The updated versions on the download page are forever changing and although mostly stable they can have bugs that you won't recognize. You can reflash the version Millright recommends from the resources page, then using the software on the same page (Xloader) flash GRBL to the board. I believe that Derek said he sent you a PM with instructions so I won't go into all that lol.
