I have a few old USB Xbox and PS controllers laying around and found some software online that maps controllers to keystrokes.
What's everyone else using?
Currently I'm using UGS java app on my mac laptop but will be using a dedicated Windows10 laptop running Platform.

lol Yea I need to get on that whole tutorial thing. Always something, though. Right now I'm trying to study for my EMT final, got boxes to prep for shipping, spending time with family. I need a vacation lol.
But for the time being. Wired Xbox Controller or Playstation, and Xpadder. In UGS-Platform (not sure about UGS anymore) you can go to options and assign which keyboard keys or combination of keys do what. Then in Xpadder, assign the buttons of the controller to those same keyboard shortcuts you assigned in UGS. I really like Xpadder though it is pretty in depth. Most of it can be ignored though.

Awesome will look into it and thanks again, your knowledge is always appreciated here!
Good luck on that final 👍

Quick update: I tried using Xpadder in Windows10 with a PS3 wired controller but it has known bugs, it reads that it's connected but not receiving Dpad, buttons and joystick movements. Found a Xbox 360 wired controller on eBay and will try with that next.

Got this working last night with the Xbox 360 controller!
I'm using the left joystick to jog X and Y and the DPAD to control the Z. Also I assigned the buttons to change the increments from 10 to 1 to 0.1, this really helps to quickly dial in with precision your WCS on a part.
One thing I can't figure out is how to change movement increments on the Z axis. UGS Platforms key map only allows to assign those increments on the X and Y.

There's an option in platform to allow all three axis to be adjusted. I don't recall the path to get to it though. I can look when I get home if you don't get it before then.
My button layout is LS x/y Dpad is Z. Right stick is mouse cursor. Start button is homing cycle. Select button is $x . B is reset zero, A is left mouse click. X is return to zero. Y is open file. The right and left bumper buttons are assigned to jog value.

I launched it and connected it to my machine and it works. However, when I use the keyboard, it is not moving the axis. Key mapping shows that it is mapped, but no movement. I have to use the mouse to click the "X+" button and so on to get movement. Any ideas?

If remember correctly, there is an option that must be selected for keyboard jogging. I'll check on that as well.

Well, I decided I couldn't wait until I got home. Being a tech guy, I have remote access into my internal network, and my cnc computer was online. So I just popped open UGS Platform and took a couple snapshots. The first shows the job window open and active. The second shows that the keyboard appears to be mapped to move the access. Let me know what you guys think... cnc ugs platform 1 by Jason Lindsay, on Flickr cnc ugs platform 2 by Jason Lindsay, on Flickr Jason

I assigned them to either CTRL arrow and SHIFT arrow.
