I'm assembling the Carve King according to the assembly instructions and can't figure out what I've done wrong.
One of the stepper drivers sparked and smoked when I plugged in the power supply- 24V, I verified, to the shield as instructed, not to the board. If you're looking at the shield with the labels "upright", it was the top left driver. I've triple checked everything, all the jumpers are in the correct places, the stepper drivers are oriented correctly, positive and negative wires are where they should be.
Any ideas on what might be have happened?
I installed the spare stepper driver, but I'm scared to plug it in again and blow this one too!
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hard to say what happened there. It could have just been a bad driver. It sounds like things were right so I’d suggest moving forward with the spare.

I seem to have had the same problem and I am unable to get the machine to power on to make any noise to honestly do anything. Is it possible to fry the entire CNC bored and have to get a replacement?

I just had the same issue. Triple checked everything. It was the stepper driver for the Y axis. OP, did you have the same issue with your spare stepper driver or was it ok after the replacement?

You may want to check the 24v power supply with a multimeter, gemmi8.
