Hi,
I'm new to cnc milling. I build the millright with the 400watt spindle. My first project is running now. It is a small PCB circuit. I can see the the PCB board is not 100% level. The design was done in eagle with the pcb-gcode add-on.
Does anybody know how the autoleveler in grbl works.

Unfortunately, the admin will have to chime in here, I don't believe we have a function available to us to "auto level", though I'm not certain. Jason

Welcome to the forum Jaco and congrats on your build. Starting out with PCB's is ambitious for sure. I'm like Mrbig, i'm not aware of an autolever in grbl. Derek the admin here can say for sure. Did you zero your z axis before the cut, and if so how?

We are using grbl 0.9f, but 0.9g has some probe features incorporated under G38.2 I believe. 1.x is even more rich in this respect I think. We will eventually make that the standard, but there are other focuses at the moment. The below link is something you are going to love. This guy wrote a program to height map your PCB and modify your g code for error. I haven't watched this video in a long time, but I think he walks you through everything including the firmware reflash. The guy has produced a genius work for the PCB maker community. martin2250.blogspot.com/2014/12/grbl-height-probing-tutorial.htmlYou can also take more steps to just flatten things out mechanically. This includes things like double sided tape.

Tnx everyone for advice.
Yes Kevin. I did zero the Z axis. I used a multimeter to check that the mill bit just touch the PCB.

No problem. Be sure to share what you make.

I've been going back and forth with Will on the touch plate and leveling functionality of UGS and GRBL. It's really close. The auto leveling in GRBL is good you just have software that takes advantage of it efficiently. At least that's what I gathered in my research as I haven't actually used it.

I milled some PCBs for my digital weather station. This was done without the GRBL autolevel function and with weak milling bits

PCB ENGRAVING
Better results. I used improved mill bits. The kapton tape should function as a solder musk

Awesome . Im really loving the projects on this site. I am not a pcb guy but just the fact that this is possible is great. Great job by the way

On my list too. I've been learning some more on PCB design to make a breakout board for the Arduino to allow for more functionality.

I managed to get the autoleveling of grbl to work.
The cable connection is: Connect one probe to the SCL port of the CNC shield and your pcb that you want to mill. Connect another probe to GND and with crock teeth to your mill. Do not switch the connections around. I used the chilipeppr.com web application to generate modivied (leveled gcode) and mill my board Chilipeppr have nice youtube videos. Great app.
I will send pics soon.

Great job jaco. Also, for general info you can also use that for general probing via G38.2 for setting the Z zero if you want if you use a spring loaded probe base.
Looking forward to your pics!
