Hi all. I'm new to the hobby CNC market but have been heavily involved in industrial CNC for 45 years. I retired last year and am looking forward to receiving the M3. Anyone know how long shipping takes?
I have a couple of projects planned. I want to machine a thumb hole insert for my bowling ball but I need some additional travel on Z-axis so I will be looking at the possibility of extending the Z travel of the machine. (Nothing new, I had many industrial customers that wanted to get just a little bit more out of there $150K machines!)

How much more Z travel will you need? If you just need Z height, the router can be moved up or down in its mount, but you would still be limited to about 2" of Z travel on the M3. The Carve King has more Z travel than the M3.

The Carve King has more Z travel than the M3. I would like to get another 12mm but I can work around it. Tinkering with the machine and making mods is part of the fun! I'm retired and on fixed income so the M3 is all the budget would allow. Once I have it I can use it to make most of the parts for modifications.

I remember somebody cut the bottom out of a Carve King to get extra space under the router. Not that easy with the M3. I think we will all be interested to see how you do this.

I hope you enjoy your M3. I purchased both an M3 and a Carve King 1.5 years ago. They have both been great machines and have not given me any trouble. I run them 6 - 8 hours a day - 6 days a week. I am currently looking at mods to my M3, to give me more working area in all three directions.

My M3 is scheduled to be here on Wednesday. It will be later in the year before I get to assemble it and have fun, but I am looking forward to it.
