Well, got my first project done today! What is was supposed to be: What it came out to be: Ended up pretty damned nice!. Finish on a couple of the surfaces needed some sand paper love. All in all, it came out great! I surfaced it (" facing bit) then cut the large trough in the out middle section(1/4" 4 flute end mill). Then ran a couple of different edge breaks in the center using a 60 Degree V-Bit(a 2dcounter with and without chamfer selected). Then ran the the Name with the same bit. Next came the 1/4" again to cut the profile, and then broke the outside edge with the V-bit again. I want to play with the tool paths a bit: as the v-bit did bite into the bottom wall, the approach point. I did have some slight lines in from the surfacing. Couldn't catch it with a nail, but could see it, but some sandpaper took care of them quickly (can still see them just a little). So might have to address the tram sooner than i thought - although i thought i got it good with the .008 difference (front= 0.000 to rear = 0.008 ?? so 0.004" difference right?). Very pleased with the result and can't wait to see where I can take this. I have one more of these planned, with my name, then a couple more small projects !! On this project all i need is some stain or some other finish on it. Haven't decided what yet, as it looks very nice with the grain, but a dark stain might make it pop... Hmm. I also got in a filter for my shop vac. Had to cut off the threaded bung on the bottom with a dremel, then was able to install it without issue. More to come!

Cleaned, coated, wiped down - single layer. Have some 220 grit i am going to hit it with tomorrow and then see where I need to go from there. I like the way it is looking! Loving the grain! I am assuming that different woods will react to stains in different ways - based on stain stype, wood type, etc. Note: I need to get some small brushes for internal features in wood, a micro fiber rag was not cutting it very well haha.

Great Job. I like the finish grain too.

Just finished playing with the tool paths for the second one. Huge learning curve, so trying to take my time (more than I really want to haha). Playing with a fillet and using 3d contour to make it with a 1/8" ball nose bit this time, and still breaking a edge with the 60 deg v bit too. Will see how it turns out! After this next name block, I think I'll be making a small tool holder for the table top - to organize bits, tools, and such. I see a lot of people make those, and it'll give me a bit more practice, so win win. I built one up in Easel about 3-4 weeks ago. I'll probably tweak that and cut it out of some left over mdf from my waste board project. On that note: I also need to re-run my spoil board cam, since I did adjust the tram of the spindle after cutting it. More to come!
