Not too sure what happened. I know very little about electronics. I've been using my machine without issue for a couple weeks now. Today I went out turned on my computer and rotated the estop knob to give it power, it kicked on and I can feel and hear the motors running. All the lights on every thing in the power box are green. I can plug and unplug the USB cable and see the small board it runs into light up green and then go out. I checked my device manager on the computer side and I see nothing arduino related. There is nothing under the universal serial communications that looks out of place or stands out. UGS says "no com port found". I do find it note worthy that the motors began to get hot just sitting while I tried to figure things out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have several standing orders and this is detrimental to the business end of things. I guess I never even considered something along these lines occurring.

Okay, update. I've had it all powered down for about a half hour. Came back turned on the power box and the computer WITHOUT them being connected via the usb cable. I then straightened the usb cable and plugged it into the power box and the computer. UGS found the COM port!!! However once I tried to replicate this, I went back to no com port found. Bad USB cable?

Try another usb cable.

It does sound like a cable. Please let me know if you confirm that's the issue. FYI: the cable is the same used on a regular printer.

I found having more that one Arduino, they get their own COM Port assignment. If I switch between them I have to set the ComPort manually the first time.

I replaced the cable and the problem went away completely Derek. I appreciate both of your prompt responses.

This issue has persisted several times since I created this thread. The machine is currently down. I have tried several different USB cables, 2 from printers around the house, 1 new. I went as far as to buy a totally new computer thinking that was an issue. I have tried a couple different gcode senders thinking it was a problem with ugs. No matter what I switch to the computer cannot find the com port. If I hook up my phone via tether to the computer then the different gcode senders find a com port, but its just my phone, so I am eliminating the possibilities of a computer issue, sender issue, or (since I have so many cables) a usb issue. The arduino IDE also cannot locate a port.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm at a loss. The issue is very sporadic. I may go out tomorrow morning and it will work for a day or two before it just stops finding the com port again.

This is probably a long shot, try putting a powered USB hub between the computer and the control box.

It's very possible then that your Arduino has just died or is dying. It might be a good idea to replace this. Please email us at support@millrightcnc.com
