I have the mega v xl assembled, plugged in the USB from the controller into the laptop( like instructions said ) then I started the downloaded UGS program and got that error. I went to device manager and it says it doesn't have drivers. Laptop has windows 8.1 and directions said that the controller came preloaded. I was using the getting started pdf from the resource page.

I don't think that covers win 8. However, get the arduino ide, select a mega 2650 as the board you are talking to. A com port should pop up from the controller. OPen the serial monitor, it should start talking to you. Kill the arduino ide, start ugs again, it should be able to find a port

I think the 4th axis uses the Arduino Mega. If you have the 3 axis only version the Arduino Uno is still used as the controller.
