I got my carve king in late 2017. Used it all weekend with Easel flawlessly. Monday plugged it in to run Easel again and it won’t connect to the machine. I’ve confirmed I have 24V at the screw terminals. The uno board has a yellow and green light when plugged in to the USB. I’ve checked for loose connections and have found nothing. It just died overnight. No noticeable issues when I shut it down.
I checked device manager and see nothing called out in the com port or usb. I tried another computer and it loaded a driver but still no connection to the machine.
Anybody have any ideas?

Are you getting holding torque on the motors when you power it up? Can you turn the lead screw with your fingers?

I can turn all lead screws by hand.

Some of the older CNC Shields V3.0 had a fuse soldered in between the X and Z driver slots, but in later versions the fuse was removed. Apparently some have replaced the fuse with a wire. Not finding any info on replacing the fuse. Current version of the CNC Shield is V3.51.

I’m nowhere near an expert on electronics. I do show voltage at each stepper motor. Do you think buying the new shield will fix it?

Power cable came in a day early. I can't get GRBL settings to pull up at all. The machine is acting like it isn't plugged in at all via USB. I've made sure the USB root hub is set to always on. I've used 2 computers and 2 cables and can't get it to connect at all.

Check the power connection at the CNC Shield board. Make sure they are tight and there is 24VDC.

Showing 24 Volts at screw terminals and all 4 motors.
Nothing different shows in device manager when I plug in the USB. Motors don't hum like they used to when I plugged it in.

I tried plugging in just the Uno with the cnc shield removed and the lights aren't coming on. They were last week when I began this thread but now they aren't.

update. I tried my work computer and it lights up the Uno board. My surface that I typically use will not light it up. It only has 1 usb port.
Either way, even with the work computer, it won't connect to the machine. But I confirmed the Uno is good still.

So back to my original question: You should have torque on the motors with just the control power turned on. The PC doesn't have to be connected. Any torque on the motors now?

No torque on motors. They all turn by hand. I have power at the screw terminals.
I got a new Arduino and now it's showing a port on one computer. Still not on the Surface so I need to explore the USB port on that computer. Waiting on new CNC shield. It should arrive Friday. But I'm showing voltage at all 4 stepper motors.

New arudino and cnc shield. Same problems. Motors won't come on. Machine won't connect. New USB cord. New computer.
It's showing in the device manager now.
