Hey guys,
I am brand new to the CNC world and the M3 is my very first machine. I am getting to the final stages of the build and I had a few questions that I am hoping you all can answer. Being new, I apologize if I have trouble describing the questions.
First off, when I put the router into the Z axis bracket with no power applied it drops the Z axis all the way to the bottom. I have the spring mounted on the side that I assume is supposed to hold some of the weight but it still bottoms out. I am worried about it dropping and generating enough voltage to hurt the boards. Is this normal for the M3?
Secondly, When mounting the router in the Z axis bracket, is there a specific place the bracket should fall on the router? As in, should i slide the bracket towards the upper or lower part of the threads on the router body?
Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for all your time.

Cris,
Thanks for the reply. It does seem unusual that the router would drop and bottom out but I don't know any better. I actually created my own box for my electronics using an ABS junction box. It was 160mmx110mmx90mm and i was able to set the fan into the lid of it with no issues. Just had to punch all the holes for the air intake and exhaust. Definitely helped clean up the look.

The Z axis has a spring to help keep the motor from falling but the power needs to be turned on to have torque on the motor so it doesn't move. Then you can jog it and home it from there.
