First of all, I'm brand new to the whole CNC process. Rank novice
With the CNC defined in the subject I need to know if I'm setting up the Dewalt router prior to clicking on the run button within the G Code Sender. What I've been doing is setting the router's bit approximately 1mm above the material to be carved and turning on the router.
Is that the correct process?
Should the router's bit be set higher above the material?
I'm open to suggestions.

It depends on how you have the tool-path zero location setup. That is setup in the CAD/CAM software when you program the workpiece tool-path zero location.
