We lucked out. Lost a tree and a large limb from the big tree out front but that's it. All my neighbors lost sections of fence, trees on cars and houses, etc.

Sounds like you were fortunate. We have pecan trees that want to drop big limbs at a whisper of a wind. If we ever get half of Harvey they'll all be on the ground.

My dad just had some pecan trees that had to have some limbs cut out of them. I told him to save me the wood. Gonna plane them and turn them into ukuleles and other cool wood projects. East Texas pecan is not common in the lumber yards here.

I rarely make things from domestic wood unless it's mesquite, walnut, or Birdseye maple. I don't know that you'll get enough to make a body from branches. However, maybe a neck or some bridges.

He had some 12" diameter pieces he is saving me. And some 8" pieces. That's big enough I hope. We'll see. I need to head that way soon and pick it up.

Those are some massive pecan trees lol. 12" should work. Take em to a local mill to have them slabbed for you. Some might not do it depending on how short they are.
