This is a Stratish style arch top solid body using Philippine mahogany - Strats are too big for the Carve king while this one will only fit at an angle. For some reason the program has been stopping at about 80% and gives the message the there is a problem with the grbl - which is interesting because the "air cut" went perfectly. Discovered that Picsender doesn't like Windows 10. So back to UGS - working like a champ. After the third stop - found a nut laying against an inside edge on the work missing from the anti backlash part on the Z travel - maybe that was tripping the limit switch? So removed the z assembly and reset and tightened the backlash unit - in the process tightened up some pretty loose wheels. The homing sequence fails and produces an "Alarm 9" - tried a couple things but it's still not homing right on the x axis - stops about midway across -then if restarted where it stopped - it finishes the cycle - weird. That said after turning off G28 in the post processor and a couple other things the contouring process went from start to finish without a hitch! Now it's time to flip it over and do the belly contour. Fun stuff.  After a few adjustments the machine ran through both the carve and contour cycles perfectly - so as usual pilot error is to blame for my issues. Will post some movies soon - turned out really nice. This is milled using the "morphed spiral" CAM scheme in conFusion 360 . . .  Update: Here is the body after completely successful top carve and contouring cycles . . . now it's time to flip it over and do the tummy contour. Will do the pickups and control cavities with the overarm router because haven't done the CAD/CAM for the neck, pickups and control pockets yet.  |

I think I know what’s up. The homing fail is probably related to reset of the settings. I bet if you looked at your max travel settings they need to be changed to around 430 on X and Y.... setting 130 and 131.

Congrats by the way on working through the issues and getting what so far looks like a really nice guitar.
I’m looking forward to seeing it all dressed out and wishing you luck on the flip side op.

Cheers Thanks Derek - here is what it looks like after completely successful top and contour cycles . . .now it's time to flip it over and do the tummy contour. This is the first time for flipping a work piece over - but have learned to use the WCS option in F-360 CAM setup. used the left corner for this side and will use the right corner when it's flipped over - so actually will be able to make an entire guitar body with very little elbow grease!  With a little sanding this will be ready to paint!   |

The GRBL settings somehow reverted - not sure how - probably something I did by mistake. But anyway if you'll remember you figured out that my Z has to be set at 100 while the X & Y are set at 200 - for some reason the Z was going twice as far as it was supposed to - that reverted too - so changed that number and it and it's working correctly now. Will update you on the homing settings. Thank you for the advice. |

During this process a stepper driver was going out but replaced it midway through the tummy cut . . . but beyond that it went well for the first time. Took about 5 minutes on the band saw and 20 minutes of sanding afterward - much easier than making it by hand.

Very cool man! I need to get one of those touch plates. Makes it look easy. Is that the Triquetra one? Since selling my Telecaster a few years ago (long story) am getting ambitious and working on a Fender Jazzmaster model to attempt carving. Have never tried a two sided carve and am a little scared of it.. Attached is my top side model to date.. Attachments:

VG, What bit did you use? Looks extra long. It is a quarter inch bit - it is nearly 3" in length. Certainly could've used a smaller bit for this procedure. |
