hey all, so I have just finished the build of the carve king. volt testing the axis drives and I can rotate the adjusting screw all day but the d.c voltage all 4 drivers show 24.67 give or take a few 10ths, no mater what direction I turn. Did I miss read i need reading at 6. motors get really hot like 150degF HOT, sitting state. is this normal, also I read about drives popping up upon plugging computer in to machine. don't see anything. can someone shed light on this Sit? please?

Please do not plug the motors in if drivers are not tuned. The instructions call for the tuning to be done without the motors connected because you can melt a motor insulation if the voltage is too far out of range. With that said, 150 degrees F Is okay for a stepper, through a bit warn. how was your multi meter set? I’ve not ever run into anyone getting 24 V at the adjustment screw. It should max out at about 1.5 V or maybe 2.

sorry ignore that last post. so my meter reads 24 ish volts with the 24v adapter plugged in, then with only the usb it will not settle down to a volt just goes from 5. to.2 never stays the samee

Make sure your batteries are good in the Multimeter and it is set for Volts DC. If does not have an auto range mode make sure you are reading in the 2.0VDC range. Not sure how you can be locked out of the machine. This procedure does not require a PC.

did that.. fyi its a new meter, really nice one. can only get a constant reading with the 24v ad plugged in. when I plug in the usp the fan now stops?

There is a short that has emerged somewhere. If the fan stops. Pull all the drivers and install one at a time. Also check to make sure your wires aren’t touching. Don’t pull or plug a driver until you disconnect all power and wait 60 seconds.
Also, the power supply should be plugged in and the USB connected when you adjust the voltage.
I also don’t understand what you mean by locked out of the machine. The only thing I can understand that to mean is alarm lock which has nothing to do with stepper drivers.

No, that is normal. 130F is pretty cool for a stepper motor compared to what it is capable of withstanding.
