Hey all,
Bought the CarveKing earlier this year and I'm finally getting around to playing with it. I've done some basic text/engraving with it but I'm looking to make some larger signs (mainly 2D to start with some more intricate carving down the road). Where is a good place to get the files to import into Fusion 360?
Now the text questions for Fusion 360: I plan to make about 60 Eagle Scout name plaques for my son's Boy Scout Troop. Currently the plaques are all about 2.5" by 6" using pine wood and decals. I would like to make nicer and engrave them.
Since the names will be anything from Lee to McGinnity, how can I make the text stay the same height but look good on the plaque? Or am I just overthinking this and just find a text height that looks good with the longest name? I was thinking that were was a way of stretching the width of the short names some and shrinking the long names (just a little bit).
Also, what's the best way to curve text? I want to add names to a fire department maltese cross and want to curve the text.
Thanks! Doug

If I was to do something like that I would use Inkscape to put it together and then F-Engrave to create the toolpath. You can select any font that is in your PC to work with in Inkscape. You can stretch and move to fit whatever your work piece requires. Make a .BMP (bitmap) file to load into F-Engrave and you're off and running. I never have gotten a DXF file to import, but a bitmap does work.

Bruce has it right again. Inkscape and F Engrave are better suited to that purpose. If you really like the Fusion CAM features though you could design it in Inkscape and import the resulting SVG into Fusion.

Thanks for the replies. I looked at F-Engrave and it looks like it will fit my needs. The only issue is I'm having a hard time getting it downloaded to my laptop. The files will download but then I can't find an .exe file to install the program. The F-Engrave page isn't very helpful so do you guys have any advice?

Download the following zip file: F-Engrave-1.65_win.zip Just unzip the file in its own directory and then run f-engrave-165.exe

It wasn't easy but I got it figured out. Hope to try it out today when I get home from work!

Got the F-Engrave software working and when I went to carve my design there was an issue with the starting point of my machine. I thought F-Engrave was set to start carving in the center of the design but it appears that UGS Platform started carving from the lower left corner.
Is there an easy way to know exactly where the bit should be when you start carving? Like starting the bit in the lower left, middle/center, etc.

Looks like the default is set at the lower left. Click on the Help:Help(Web Page) and it takes you here: www.scorchworks.com/Fengrave/fengrave_doc.html#settingsThe origin determines the relative location of the g-code x and y zero location. The current location of the origin is displayed in the display window as a red and green lines. The red and green lines follow the RGB convention Red is the x-axis, Green in the y-axis. You can find the "Origin" button under the "Image Position and Orientation" section in the center left of the front screen of the program. Also you will want to go to the "General Settings" and look for G-Code Header: G17 G64 P0.001 M3 S3000 I usually just erase the whole thing but you definitely want to get rid of the "G64 P0.001"
