Anyone put a 2.2Kw spindle on their machine? Power Route in particular. If so 220V or 110V, air or water cooled. I am speculating that the longevity would be better than a router. Better bearings, the ability to water cool and perhaps quieter. What about the weight in the Power Route. Methinks the router is the weakest link.

Per Derek from my 1.5 vs 2.2kw post “I’d keep it under about 12 pounds, but you could get away with more. The Z is pretty powerful.”
I received my 1.5kw spindle kit today and it weighs 11.4lb with the mount. That’s not including a dust boot. So Id say stay cautious on what you pick due to weight.

I went with 230VAC input VFD using a step-up transformer. In order for a VFD to operate at 120VAC they derate a unit that operates at 230VAC. e.g. 1.5KW at 230VAC is derated to 800W at 120VAC. The transformer has added benefit with electrical isolation of the VFD. A spindle motor will be much quieter. An air cooled motor will be a little more noise versus a water cooled but you have the pump/tubing issue. A spindle has other benefits such as wider speed control and less runout.
