Hi. First post here. I’ve been a member of countless forums—ski boats, karting, trucks, audio equipment etc. This is by far the most helpful and civil forum I have ever experienced. Refreshing!
Quick question. I’m doing some simple signs with multiple operations. Would the work coordinate system be helpful here to locate consistently the center point of my stock? So, instead of locating as close as possible the center point between operations, can I just set a G54 coordinate in lieu of a G92 command. I do have the homing switches.
Thanks everyone.
Steve.

Absolutely. That’s the intended purpose of a work coordinate system. You can use the G10 command to set all the work coordinate systems where you want them. Have you checked out the video in setting work coordinate system video in the vid tutorial sticky?

Thanks Bruce. Looking forward to getting my hands on it.
One more question. If I’m using the coordinates system, do I not delete the G54 command in the gcode? Sorry if this seems elementary.

It's no problem Steve. That's what the forum's all about.
If you fully intend to use G54, then it's okay to leave in there. By default, when you boot the controller up the G54 system is selected. In other words, if no other system is intentionally selected then G54 is what is active. I have advised people to delete the G54 line in the past to get rid of the "trap" that exists if you were to have another coordinate system selected that you intended to run the program on, only to have the program change to another coordinate system without you expecting it.
In our production environment, I do have coordinate system selections in a lot of our programs. That's just fine as long as you know what's about to happen.
