For those of you that have used the jtech laser on leather, it seems like no matter how fast or slow I am going the finished product will always "smudge". What am I doing wrong? Most recent settings are 50"/minute at 40% power from the laser. Is this just a side effect of leather or is there a way to leave a clean finish so when I run my finger across the finished product it doesn't smudge?

Do you mean soot spreading after you laser engrave it? If so, I think that’s just part of it and would have to be washed clean.

Have you tried covering the leather with blue painters tape and cutting it though that. then the soot would be deposited on the tape and could be removed leaving the leather clean.

I have not tried the blue tape, but I will give it a shot! Thanks!
