Hi Folks... I haven't used Fusion 360 but I intend to do so shortly. Ultimately, I need to create a 3D shape, but my first task is to start with a 2D panel that needs various precisely sized and precisely placed holes and slots. I have used various other 3D modeling apps and have found that creating holes with precision was easier with Inkscape as a first step, and then importing into a 3D modeling app for extrusion and enhancement. Before I start, I was wondering if anybody could comment on their experience. For what I have described... would you skip the use of Inkscape and instead start modeling in Fusion 360?

I personally would. In my opinion Fusion is a much better tool for precise modeling while Inkscape is a better tool for artistic work and letters.

Thanks for the quick reply Derek. I'll spend some time with Fusion 360 today.
My Power Route is up and running. Fun to assemble and fun to run. Thanks for taking the time to answer all my questions before I pulled the purchase trigger :-)

Check out Youtube for Fusion 360 tutorials. When drawing in Fusion 360 there are constraints or limits that can be confusing or frustrating to use.
But once you learn how to use them they can help aid in drawing precise parts.
