I am cutting a simple ring from 1/4 aluminum. When I look at the side profile of the ring the sides are sloped to one side. My assumption is the tool is not perpendicular to the work surface. Any suggestions on the best way to correct this

Make sure your router is plumb. Check out the post at the top of this forum page: How to Tram the Spindle on the cheap. I don't have an M3 but I'll take a shot on how to adjust it. You can adjust the router mount left/right (roll left or right of the router) buy loosening the screws in the back of the mount. Adjusting front to back, (Pitch front to back of the router) is a bit more involved. On the M3 you will have to loosen the X axis (2040 V Rail Extrusion) at the left and right side frames. You may have to check the Y axis (Forward and Backward movement of the bed) also.

I took a piece of aluminum flat bar about 6" long and drill a 1/4" hole in one end. I used a 1/4" nut and bolt snugged to the bar and this goes in the 1/4" chuck. About 5" from the center of the 1/4" hole I drill a snug fit hole for the post of a dial indicator similar to this. www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Professional-Lever-Dial-Test-Indicator-Meter-Tool-Kit-Precision-0-01mm-Gage-/113469716557?hash=item1a6b52784d(sorry for the long address but it's a hobby dial indicator for around $14.) Then is was just a matter of rotating the bar by hand, moving the table forward and back, and adjusting both the top rail and bottom rails until I got as close to 0 on the dial indicator. This is really just a amateur's approach and I'm sure a pro can definitely improve but it worked for me
