Hi everyone New Millright owner here (M3) Does anyone use Easel as their s/w of choice? I have played with Fusion 360 some and to be honest it is way overkill for me at this point. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Thanks I used Easel when starting out since it was free and quite simple. I had also been exposed to it when using a CNC at our public library. I later moved on to Vectric Cut2D and then Vectric Vcarve Desktop. There are other free alternatives out there too that many others will no doubt chime in about.

I've tried a bunch of them. I think the easiest for basic stuff are Easel and Carbide Create. For basic lettering and inlays, F-Engrave also works well. It can also do some nice v-bit carves, though calculating them takes forever compared to some other programs. Fusion is great for mechanical parts you need accurately dimensioned. For more artistic stuff, it's overkill. And it doesn't work great for text layout at the moment, though rumor is they are working on that.
Don't get me wrong, Fusion is amazing for free. It's just not always the best choice for people that don't need a full blown CAD. The Vectric applications are highly recommended by CNC users, and they have a demo version you can try out to see if it works for you. I haven't bought it yet myself, so I can't really review it.
