What is the thickest piece of hardwood can the 7w laser cut through, anyone? I'm trying to decide if I should replace my dead co2 laser with this diode laser or just purchase another co2 machine.

I have the smaller laser, but reading up on them the diode lasers aren't really good for cutting. They can do easy things, but think wood is not likely to work well. I do cutting with the router and use the laser for engraving and such.

After doing a bit of research I've come to a similar conclusion about the diode lasers. Maybe I need to think a bit more about using both machines rather than just one machine to achieve a single goal. Thanks!

When I had my co2 laser working, I would typically engrave to a depth of about 1/8". It tended to look better than just a single pass surface burn. Make sense?

The single pass stuff is all I've done with it. I would like to try more at some point, but information about doing it was a bit scarce.
