Hello y'all, for those flag makers out there what would be the best bit to use for making 1.3inch stars using the Easel software. I been using a 60 degree v-bit but it just takes over an hour and I'm hoping there is a faster more efficient way. What settings are good for making them: feed rate, depth per cut, depth per pass, rpm? I'm thinking the 90 degree v bit would be faster but I'm just looking for other opinions. TIA!

How thick is your material and what is your depth of cut?

A 60 degree bit would cut it just fine. Personally I think a 90 degree but would look a little better, also if you cut it around 7.5 to 8 mm depth of cut it will not leave a flat surface on the deepest part of the star, looks kinda cool. When I made a flag I did 7.5 deep for the stars and I think 2mm for the letters that made my stripes. All done with a 90 degree v bit I’m not sure why it takes you over an hour. Might want to bump up your feed rate. The stars should take about 30 minutes with a conservative feedrate

And what is a good feed rate, depth per pass, plunge rate, and what setting if you have the DeWalt 611 do you recommend, there's 1-6?

Same as the picture in the bit selection in easel. If you look at the top bar in easel it should show what material you have selected. If you click on most any type of wood it should give you a feedrate of 1270 I think. You can bump that up a little bit. Easel feedrates are somewhat conservative because the machines that it is meant for are belt driven. I think I did somewhere around 1600. I can’t remember what my router speed was. Probably 4 or 5. I left the depth per pass at 1.5 as suggested by easel. Same with plunge rate. millrightcnc.proboards.com/thread/1178/first-attempt-project-proof-engraveHere is my first project. The burnt wood is kind of a cool effect.

Thank you. Yes, I carved it using three gcode files and used reference points to line things up from one section to another.
