What software do you use? I have done a couple. The gcode file attached is for a union 7.4 inches by 5.7 inches. It is cut with a 1/16 down cut bit. I created it with Vectric Vcarve Desktop and a attached that file too. Attachments:Flag1 Star.gcode (188.04 KB)

Thank You I was trying to make a flag about 37" x 19" I tried to set it up in inkscape with the union about 10.5 X 14.75 and just carve the stars out.

You are going to need a small bit for the stars, like the 1/16" one that Hommer mentioned, or you will need to V-carve with a V-shaped bit to get the sharp points of the stars.
You could try F-engrave as a free V-carving application and Carbide Create for 2D carving. Those are pretty easy to get started with.

Thank You I was trying to make a flag about 37" x 19" I tried to set it up in inkscape with the union about 10.5 X 14.75 and just carve the stars out. Here is a gcode file that is 14.75 x 11.4. It uses a 1/16 straight bit, downcut recommended and cuts the stars 1/16 deep. I stain the wood blued with some Minwax water based stain first then the stars come out white after the cut. I use white pine for the flags. You can view the file using this application. ncviewer.com/That file is within the limits of the CK. Attachments:Union.gcode (475.32 KB)

Thanks Hommer and Rowiac for all the help and sharing the files with me, I sure have enough to get me started again and try this weekend to make this work. I will check out F-engrave and Carbide Create, there seems to be a lot of things out there and a lot to learn. Thanks again Guys

For what it's worth, another vote for F-engrave. Great software that is free.
