With this Stay At Home order that most of us are under, I finally had time to assemble my MegaV XL that been sitting boxed up in the hallway since the beginning of March. I found that the assembly was WAY easier than it was assembling the CarveKing. The video instruction was GREAT. Really liked the showing how its assembled than trying to infer whats been printed with little to no pictures. What I especially liked was the control box! All I had to do was plug in my connectors! This thing is a BEAST! I got it fired up and ran through some hard wood. It just ATE up anything I put it through, Oak, Mahogany, Walnut, IPE wood. SUPER quiet , minus the router. What normally would take the CK about 20 min to cut a contour out on a plaque at 2mm depth per pass at 1000mm/min on a 1/4 on a 3/4" thick board... I was running 6mm depth at 2000 mm/min with no issue. I probably could go more, can test that later.
This was DEFINITELY worth the purchase. The machine looks like a mini Industrial CNC. This machine in my opinion is Superior to all other CNC machines in this class size/category.
That said, I have already got two Jobs lined up to cut some 30"x30" logos for a local Fire Dept out of some solid Oak wood.
THANK YOU DEREK for making such a FINE machine!

Given the great work you've done with your Carve King, I can't wait to see the projects you're able to do with your Mega V.

I have done dozens of carvings on the CK since I last posted some projects I have made. I have been building more than just Carvings recently. I have built a 34"x8ft LiveEdge 3 piece black walnut table with a logo machined in the center and then back filled with a silver pigmented epoxy. It came out GREAT.

Sounds like a great place for pictures of that table in the PROJECTS forum! Congrats on the Mega V XL build.

Machine: Power Route

Sorry if I missed this answered somewhere else, but will the 4th axis parts be available in the kickstarter for the PowerRoute or is that only for this new machine and part of a later plan? If later down the road, what kind of ETA would we be looking at for that addition to the Power Route for us current owners? We are working on the best way to implement the 4th axis in a way that is backwards compatible to the Power Route and M3. It won't go on sell specifically for that until probably the spring. It’s been a bit since I saw an update on this. Any idea how close we may be to this or if it’s a pipe dream?

People are still receiving machines from what I heard, just slow from what I saw on some of the Facebook groups. I am still waiting on my delivery of a 19x19 MDF from end of February order.

Does anyone have experience adding the Jtech laser to the Mega V as a later addition? How is the integration with the control box and power supply? I’m stuck inside and my shed can't be delivered until the governor gives the all clear but I’m considering it so I can work indoors where my machine is right now.

How are the new owners liking their Mega V's? I haven't heard or seen much in the way of reviews yet searching on Google. I am looking for my first CNC machine to do some woodwork and light aluminum - electronic equipment face plate cutouts and engraving. As the tolerances aren't all that critical, I was leaning towards the Carve King but looking at the Mega V and it's speed, upgraded electronics, stiffness, etc., it might me a better long term machine for me. But the lack of customer reviews/videos has me leaning more towards the Carve King at this point - known quantity with a proven record. I am a little concerned about the exposed rack and pinion design getting dirt/debris and jamming up.
That, and it would appear the Carve King has better availability - 2 weeks as apposed to 5-6 weeks.
Decisions, decisions....

Slowly starting to get things together with my Mega V, being on medical restrictions is slowing me down considerably, but at least I can take some time and make sure I've got everything else sorted in the meantime (ie, place to keep it, a 240v router etc. Took a few pics to show how well FedEx did for the delivery.. curious to see how well everything works after their ham fisted approach to delivering consignments.
