This is a relief carving I did from an imported STL file into ArtCAM. I created the frame within ArtCAM. The roughing was cut with a 1/4" end mill and the finish cut was with a 2-flute 3.6° tapered ball-nose, 1/16" (1.59 mm) end cut diameter. I'm not sure how I'm going to finish it yet. The wood is yellow pine 2x12.

Nice one Bruce.
On a different note, has your CK always been blue?

I always appreciate seeing another relief carving. Seems there are a few different versions of this style pattern available. Keep up the great work.

Nice one Bruce. On a different note, has your CK always been blue? Yep, its been blue from day one. It took me two days to paint it all before assembly. MDF is a pain to seal.

I hadn't see this one before, I like the background. I'm thinking of someways to airbrush the sky, moon and clouds.

Carving is great but the grain of your wood is too bold and distracts the eye from the detail. I would use a more boring wood choice in the future.

The dark grain just gets wider as it goes deeper in the wood. I'm thinking I can stain it about the same color as the dark grain and get a more uniform color. Or I'll just spray paint the whole thing and do the faux metal finish. Still mulling options in my head.

That's a good idea. I need to find a local source of better wood, but I'm either chicken or too cheep to buy the good stuff. (Chicken of messing up an expensive piece of wood.)

I look for cheap pine boards at Home Depot that don't have too many knots, but they are hard to find. There also have select pine boards with fewer defects or poplar boards for a bit more that you might want to try.

This is a 2x12 yellow pine board I wanted to try because it was a thicker board. Overall I think the wood works well for relief carving. But it's cheap enough I don't care if I mess it up trying something new.
