After running the Touch Plate Macro for months without a problem I have started receiving the below error. I'm using the correct bit(s). 70% of the time the macro works perfectly but the other 30% costs me 10 to 30 minutes. I have shut everything down and started over, homed the unit, changed bits. Sometimes one of the aforementioned actions work other times none of the actions work. Thoughts?
[Error] An error was detected while sending ' g38.2 x0 f60': (ALARM:4) Probe fail. Probe is not in the expected initial state before starting probe cycle when G38.2 and G38.3 is not triggered and G38.4 and G38.5 is triggered. Streaming has been paused.

I answered your email earlier. Let me know how the testing goes.

I now have the same issue as mentioned on this thread. Probe was working fine and then every so often it would trigger the alarm with the same message as above... and now, its every time. When I initiate the probe the Z works and then it travels to the side of the probe, moves toward it, touches, pulls off and then triggers alarm. I have deleted the Marco and reentered. no difference. Also... maybe its connected or not but last night for the first time when I went to jog the machine to the front corner to run the probe when I let go of the mouse it kept running and I had to hit the kill switch. I use the latest version of UGS. Thanks Chris

Try plugging the touch plate in and turn on Verbose output. See if you are getting a probe readout when the clip is not touching the plate. It will show a Pnp if it is receiving a signal. If it is receiving a signal when a probe command is issued, it could throw an alarm. This could mean damage to a wire causing a connection.

In regards to the jogging issue. You sometimes have to be careful jogging a long distance like one side of the machine to the other or front to back. The jog function works in increments of movement, and depending on your control software, (UGS, bCNC, etc.) if you hold down the jog button for longer than a few seconds the control buffer will fill up and the command to jog, and will continue, even after you quit pressing the jog button, and can cause a crash into the side of the machine. So typically I just press the jog button a few times until the spindle stops, press it again a few times, etc. Until I get the spindle to were I want to be.

Appreciate the reply Wes. It cant be a bad wire or anything related to the probe itself for the simple fact that I deleted UGS and installed OpenBuilds and the same probe works fine every time. Weird so I installed UGS again and probe problems were back so OpenBuilds it is. Problem solved.
Bruce, Good Advice. Just the odd part of computers is it works just fine day in and day out and then one day, for no good reason... It doesn't work that way anymore. As a guy who just does this for fun and isn't very computer savvy it gets frustrating to spend hours of time to eventually find the 30 second fix. Haha. Thanks!

Ok so it’s a ground loop. When the router is plugged in the plate registers continuity. Unplugging the router from the power strip fixes the problem
Is it a good thing to have this loop? Or do I need to change something in my set up

If you plug the router and the control box into different wall outlets, does that help? It seems that both may be plugged into the same power strip. Is that right?

Yes, they're both plugged into the same power stip. I figured it was best to have them all of the same one (router, control box, laptop) and it's been working well.
I unplug the router when zeroing and then plug it back in
