Speed control for early small machine 10"x10" router

I have one of the early small routers.  The speed control, (rheostat?) had the wires break.  Tried to solder them myself, but had no success.  The wires broke on the controller itself.  No room for an inexperienced solderer.  Contacted customer service, but my machine is no longer supported.  Customer service suggested I see how much resistance is on the board.  Way over my head. I simply want to replace what came with machine.  Thank you

Do you have the M3? Is the router the 400w spindle?

You should be able to find 400 spindles on sites like Amazon.
