I have Vectric Vcarve Desktop edition. Did my first simple test project a 4 x 10 v-carved sign with a border. Saved the G code vcarve produced for the grbl post processor. Started up the CK, plugged in the USB - all good. Started up UGCS - Homed. Moved bit over to my start work area lower left corner - reset my z axis to zero then raised it up a bit. Brought in my g code file and let her rip. The machine moved to the back right corner and crashed......ouch. Tried again (ready at the pause) same result but no crash.
thought by homing then moving over to the lower left corner and resetting my z to the surface of the subtrate that I's be good. NOPE! So tried method 2 - repeated everything BUT issued the G92 x0 y0 z0 command when setting the origin point of the work piece. Raised up the Z a bit and let her rip - SUCCESS - now that right there brought on a happy cnc face.
Lesson Learned always use the g92 x0 y0 z0 when starting (at least until I learn otherwise for a good reason)

I'm at the bolting the v extrusions to the y plates stage of my build, but will definitly need guidance with this when I'm ready to run my first program.
My "other" cnc router was very simple. The homing location was the back left corner. Making the gantry the y axis and the table the x axis. So when loooking at the machine from the left side, any movement away from the home location was plus in either axis. It also had hard limits in the firmware which would prevent any movements from causing a crash in x and y.
Homing was done with the $H button on ugs platform, then you jogged to where you wanted your origin to be and clicked each reset button for each axis. From what I've gathered so far my CK will be a little different.
Congrats on your first cut😎

My 1st Macro is G92 X0 Y0 Z0. If i remember correctly UGCS has the macro ability too. I suggest making one. Time saver

You just forgot to reset X and Y on the first one. It used home for X and Y because that's the last place you referenced.

Congrats on your first cut! Always exciting to see your machine crash lol. I have done it plenty of times but it is a great learning experience because you strive to not crash it anymore. Same with different bits, I have broken a few, but it is all a learning experience.
