I've been playing around with cutting out items using smaller end mills (1.5mm) to get finer details and sharper corners. I was using a cedar plank of about 12mm so right near the end of the job, the taper started forcing it's way down into the cut. Luckily the job finished before it became a problem by going a little deeper.
How do you guys work around deep cuts with small endmills?

Roughing passes or more passes in general is how I manage it.

What aforww and Jason said is true. That said though, if the end mill has a taper to it you should never cut below the start of the taper.
Technically, you shouldn't even cut below flute depth on an untapered end mill, though I've done it before by going a little deeper than flute length.
