Had to build a dust control box after milling my spoil board. Never saw so much dust. Hope it is only MDF that creates that much. Had dust in every orifice, in every corner...everywhere. It's basically a 33x33 box with slanted sides; 24" high in the back/about 9.5" in the front with a plastic top cover to make it easy to get in and out. It doesn't have to be pretty - just has to work for now. Will have to do until I come up with a dust collection system. Can't have all my sublimation and engraving machinery covered in that stuff. lesson learned.

I recommend a Dust Deputy and a shop vac. Has worked great for me. After 1 1/2 buckets of dust very little has made it to the vac and the shop is clean.

I have a version of that for my sandblasters in the shop. I have cut a hole in the side of the cnc box for a vac attach but need to finish the top before I do anything else. Once I finish those tasks I can hook up a vac and see how much suction I can get. Not sure how strong the suction will be as I also cut out a 7x5 section in the back left corner so the electronics would just about sit outside of the box (90% out). If there is enough suction I will probably invest in one of those cyclones. Have looked at them for years - even considered making one.

I also made this dust thing, not really a shoe but more of a chute. It seems to work pretty well. I don't care much for shoes as most block a lot of visibility. The one shoe I made seems to need a lot more suction than my rig has too. Still tweaking it to get the best results.

For the folks using the Dust Deputy, what size wet/dry vac are you using with it? I have a larger 5hp Ridgid and a smaller, 5 gal 1.5hp Shop-Vac. I would like to use the Shop-Vac but dont know if it is strong enough. I plan on either 3D printing a dust seperator or just buying a Dust Deputy for the M3.
Thoughts?
Thanks,
Mark

This is what I am using. I used to use a 1.5 Shop Vac but as Tim the Tool Man would say "More Horsepower". I plan to put a power strip on it and plug the vac, router and M3 all in so I have one switch to start and stop it all. Attachments:

So did the 1.5 HP work for you and did Tim Taylor get you with the grunts prompting you to upgrade? Mark

The 2.5 does seem to work a bit better but I wasn't unhappy with the 1.5 either.
Correction to my earlier comment on the power strip. Thinking two power strips chained together with the PC and M3 in the first one and the router and vac in the second. One switch turns on all power and gets the PC and M3 running while the second just turns the router and vac on and off.

Finally got around to finishing the dust collector. Added the power strips. The left one has the M3, PC and second power strip plugged in. The right one has the shop vac and router plugged in. I leave the router and shop vac turned on so when I have the job ready to start all I have to do is turn on the second power strip. The unit is on wheels so I can just unplug the M3, PC, router and move it anywhere in the shop to use with other machines or to clean up. Attachments:

I plan to do something similar but was going to close the bottom in and insulate it as I’ve a bigger shopvac with bigger noise lol. Nice job 👍
