I fried my Arduino board so I ordered a new one and put it in. Now my laptop sees the board and everything seems fine but the motors never engage. I am trying to get Universal G-Code sender to load so I can make sure everything is setup correctly but it won't load it tells me Java isn't a recognized command. So I spent the last hour trying to reinstall download new versions download old versions and everything else I could think of for Java and it still doesn't work. I have no idea what to do now all I want to do is get my CNC to work and I have no idea where to go from here.
What do I do guys

How did you reload Grbl when you got a new board? What is the specific error message that you get when you try to open Universal G Code Sender? We need to narrow down to one version of UGS and work from there. What happens when you download, unzip, then try to open this version of UGS: Click here for UGS Platform StableOpen it by going to the ugsplatform/bin folder. Then try to open either the ugsplatform.exe and ugsplatform64.exe files. The one that works will depend on whether you are working with 32bit or 64bit Java. Tell us what happens when you click those.

so i loaded that version and it loads but when i hit Firmware settings theres no info there. im assuming i need to load GBRL and the firmware i need but im not sure what the correct wa to do that is.

i tried to upload the hex file from the resources section of the millright site and it worked and now i get the error. grbl has not finished loading when i hit that same button about firmware settings

Check your baudrate should have loaded GRBL onto the Arduino using 115200 and then conneting UGS with 115200.

so i have everything working now. i can connect. i can do everything that i should be able to other than get the motors to engage. there is no movement at all. now im really confused. I did install a brand new cnc shield and the little boards that go on it. Any thoughts?

Hey, that's progress.
Did you set the voltage on the drivers?

It may sound silly, but as well as adjusting voltage, did you install the drivers (small boards) right side up?
Here's a step by step to help process of elimination.
Install GRBL on Arduino baud 115200
Install drivers to shield, small screw to the top (if using the purple drivers) Make sure all pins are seated correctly.
Install shield to Arduino making sure all pins seat correctly.
Adjust voltages of drivers.
Connect steppers to shield. Again with the pins.
Connect UGS to the correct COM port. Sometimes it will connect to one that isn't actually the correct one. Use the drop down arrow to see if there are other ports visible. As an example, on a fresh install my drop down says COM 1 but COM 5 is the correct one. Make sure baudrate is 115200.
Look to the left side of UGS in control panel, is it in red alarm state? Hit the "unlock" or type $x to take it out of a locked state.

I will try this in the morning. I did adjust the voltages. the screws were all in the top left of the board when i installed the drivers. i hope thats correct.

Yes, the top left is correct. Is your power supply outputting 24 volts? Here are things to check:
Good firm connection at the screw terminals 24 volts there Stepper drivers oriented correctly (you do) Stepper drivers tuned to appropriate voltage Red board seated correctly on the blue uno board (it only seats one way, but worth checking that no prongs are pushed out of the way) Connection opened in UGS with Grbl echoing back commands.
If you have all of those correct then it should work just fine if the electronics are okay.

How do you have the multimeter set?
Make sure you have a good, solid connection of the wires to the screw terminals. Disconnect the steppers and see if you measure 24 volts at the terminals now. If not, try that with the stepper drivers. You must leave the power disconnected for 60 seconds before making and breaking connections. I suspect you have a short somewhere. Its probably in the drivers. The power supply itself could also have been damaged when it got plugged into the other uno board and shorted it.
