I've been lurking around the forum even after I got my Carve King assembled while I figured out how to pull together the software tools. I figure by now, nobody wants to see another picture of the MillRight Logo, so this is what I made tonight using Vcarve and a 3D model I found on the internet. I'm pretty excited about this whole thing. This is a prototype for the top of a cork-board display for my Father in Law's Corvette that he has started taking to car shows. It is a Christmas gift, but I don't think he hangs out on this forum. :-) The Carve King went together well, and worked right off the bat. That really impressed me. I have a few comments/questions I'll send by email, but the whole thing has been a very good experience. There is a lot of good discussion on these boards that I have taken advantage of. I'm also really impressed with Vcarve. The tools to import 3D are really easy to use, and seem to be really stable. I couldn't find a good tool to edit the Corvette OBJ file (Fusion360 would import it, but not export it, and MeshLab was just too weird), but I eventually stumbled onto threejs.org/editor/, which let me make some quick minor edits, and exported an OBJ file. My next project is a case for a Raspberry PI + touchscreen that is going to run bCNC, and act as a server for the Carve King. That way, I can get the laptop I'm using out of harm's way. John

That is an ambitious first project and it turned out very well, it's impressive how well the Corvette rendered. I think the father in law is going to be impressed.

I also think that's a really nice looking project. I like Corvettes too. I might have to make myself a Christmas gift like that!

John Very nice work! Congrats on the first project. I will definitely be interested in your RPi / bCNC control setup. Keep us updated on that.

I finished this just in time for Christmas. Thought I'd share the finished product. It is poplar with Natural Watco Danish Oil on it. I experimented with some Walnut on it, but didn't like the way it looked. I also made a video to share with the gift. It is 50x speed of most of the cutting. One of the clips is out of order, but only someone who knows what is going on would notice. :-) youtu.be/iHMZwrtQ4IMJohn Attachments:

Job well done. I’m sure the receipt will dig getting to see the process too.
