As the thread title says, I need to source some acrylic that is diffused all the way through and not just on a surface. Does such acrylic exist? (I asked my supplier and he says No.)
To be clear, I don't want acrylic that is frosted on just one side or both sides, I need for it to be frosted all the way through, so that LEDs shined into the edges is diffused.
And yes, I've tried just sanding the edge of the acrylic, and that works but not well enough.
I realize I could buy some translucent acrylic in White, but I'm afraid that would block too much of the light.
So, does anyone have experience with something like this?

Have you checked TapPlastics? I know they have a product called 60% white.

I know that Acrylite makes something called "Endlighten" that is supposed to be designed for edge-lighting. I think it can get a little pricey, but it might accomplish what you need. It's not frosted, but there are diffusing particles throughout. Here's their product info PDF.
