Not CNC related, but wanted to share something I'm working on for fun. It's just a little 3D printed crystal cluster with addressable LEDs and a Particle Photon for the brain. It can be told (via Alexa) to do different things such as the color fading in the video, set to certain colors or brightness. It also notifies me when conditions are met. If I get a Facebook message, it'll flash blue. If the forecast calls for rain, it'll fade through blues and whites to give a water shimmering effect (In theory. I'm in Texas, so that's a rare occurrence), or do a similar pattern with reds and oranges to simulate fire when the forecast calls for 90+ degrees that day. I'm still considering other additions for functionality, as my plan is to install these lights in a large two-tier recessed ceiling at my in-laws' house for a much more dramatic effect. It's running off of custom code on Particle and using IFTTT to call the functions. Here's it printed: Here's the guts: And here's a video of it cycling colors: youtu.be/V9fIFnBXcEw

Looks like something I've seen on a Star Trek episode. Very cool. Thanks for posting. I've never heard of Particle before. I may be looking for a Garage Door controller project in the near future. Is this an open source cloud based system?

Looks like something I've seen on a Star Trek episode. Very cool. Thanks for posting. I've never heard of Particle before. I may be looking for a Garage Door controller project in the near future. Is this an open source cloud based system? It is! I've seen people use them for smart garage door openers before. They're very easy to use to trigger relays. Particle makes different boards including one that's Cellular! I use the Photon ($19 on Amazon). It's WiFi and the interface to program it is online and very easy send updates to your device or manage an entire fleet of devices with updates (if you use it as an imbedded board for a product you sell). I have one that turns my main 3D printer on and off. I may use another to turn the router on the CK off when a job finishes (using an IOT relay like this www.amazon.com/dp/B00WV7GMA2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_cEQoBbB5VERZR ) It's a whole lot like Arduino but with a better IDE. Swear I don't work for Particle. Lol!
