Running a new 3D carve yesterday with a new 4" long 1/4" end mill. Got 60% through the roughing operation when all of a sudden its cutting 3-4mm deeper. I stopped the machine and checked the bit and it seemed tight, so I re-tightened it and reran the program, I think I saved it, might need some touch-up where the gouge occurred. So it's not a bug in my program and not the machine, just operator error.I caught it within seconds. I needed the 4" long bit cause my slab is 3" thick. First time for this thickness, had to remove the spoil board to clear the height of the slab. My 3D cuts are very deep, post a pic when its done, its my first attempt at modern art.

That's definitely good advice. Good thing you caught it before it messed up your project any further or worse yet, your machine self destructed. I look forward to seeing the finished project.

Have had a few mishaps where I was really glad I was there to catch it. I don't leave my machine on its own for any longer than a few minutes and only then when running a job I have used before and know it is progressing as expected.
