The only thing to watch out for here guys is the router staying cool. A lot of guys a while back (in the days before MillRight CNC on another forum) were looking at these to pair up with different routers. Some smart folks were expressing concerns that routers might not stay cool at RPMs below designed operating points. I never heard a guy say he burned his this way though.
You could use the PWM functionality in the version of grbl hex that we have for the spindles to run it via software though it's not too hard to rebuild Grbl with values for the S command (rpm control in this context) that match range with that.
Please keep us posted on that.

Please keep us posted on that. It has the ability to monitor the operating temperature of the router via thermocouple. However, I wonder if 5k rpms is really low enough to hinder cooling of a router with a decent fan (like the Makita . Guess ya don't know until you try. As for speed controls via computer vs pot, I would definitely invest in Mach 3 if I wanted spindle operation part of my Gcode. Though I don't feel like my work flow would really benefit from it. Once the bigger machine is out and in my hands, this will probably be my next purchase.

Ah I see about the thermocouple now. I know they are pretty popular. I actually contacted them about some units. You actually don't need Mach 3 to run the PWM signal to it. Grbl can do it... in fact, that .hex file you use to control your laser intensity via S commands does that. I'm sure the speed control signaling is essentially the same for the Super PID.
