Following the printed instructions, I fired the board when trying to set the voltage.
The power supply was not plugged into the female socked on the Uno board. It was wired to the socked supplied. Which was wired into the Red board as instructed. Before the USB was to be plugged in, it said to power up the 24v power adapter and plug into the supplied socket. ZAAAP! fried one of the stepper boards and possibly another. I saw a spark and a whisper of smoke come from under a stepper board. Not sure what I did wrong. Either way, Im screwd.
Now what?

Just tested the Voltage coming from the power supply, reads 50v... which would explain why it fried the boards. Shouldnt it have been 24v?
The 50V came in the AC mode, I switched to DC mode and got 24V. So I guess Im good. Hate to fry another board by plugging it back in with the spare board that came with the kit.

Update.
I noticed there was a spare driver board included. I replaced the burnt one and plugged it back in... no ZAP. set drivers to .65v. Back in business!

Everything was going smooth leading up to setting the electrical. We do not believe that we have fried out the board since we did not see anything like a spark or smoke. But the board has no voltage reading. Since you have had issues at this point do you have any advice to determined if the boards are fried or should we just swap out each one with the extra to see if any thing positive comes from it. We are not electrical people when dealing with circuit boards and we are at the end of our rope battling with this step. Thanks in advance for your help/advice.

Which machine are you working on Heather? Which step are you on that you're having trouble? Are you trying to set the .60V (M3) or .65v (CK) on the stepper driver boards?

I was still having issues as somehow the firmware got corrupted and couldnt connect to UGS. I sent my board to him and he found another resister that fried which probably killed the firmware too. Had the board back in a few days.

Hi Bruce: Thanks for your reply. We have the Carve King and we are at the point of getting our voltage set with the purple steppers. After getting to this step we cannot get a reading on our meter. It is not to say that something did not go wrong and we blew the steppers. However, nothing dramatic happened and when looking at them there is no indicator that we have blown them. Neither of us are experts at electrical beyond running a plug outlet or changing a fuse/circuit. Well, my husband is more knowledgeable then I am. We will try and change out the stepper and see if we get anything from that and will update later tonight.

So for me a visual is a lot easier to understand...so at this point reading the instructions is difficult. And the YouTube videos are not helpful for me because they appear that they are meant to be for someone with the knowledge of circuit boards. And that's not this girl.

How are you using a volt meter to test the voltage. I first made the mistake and had it set to AC and was getting errorneous readings. Then realized it was in AC and then switched to DC and got proper readings. Take a reading from the two red and black lead wires going to the board itself, make sure its getting voltage from the power pack Also if you dont have the clips, I just taped the RED lead to a small screwdriver and manually held the BLACK negative lead to the ground screw on the board. make very small adjustments as its very sensitive. make adjustment, wait for the reading to settle, as it may jump up or down a bit.
