Is there any advantage to a water cooled spindle? The size would be an 800w (1HP) . The pump and tubing for the water cooled motor seems overkill for what I'm doing now. But maybe I'm missing something.

Water is much more efficient at removing heat then air. Keeping the temperature lower in most cases means longer life span of said equipment. Depending on the cost difference between air and water cooled it may not be worth it.
Edit: Also, ambient temp can greatly affect air cooling. Air cooling from 30F vs 100F is much more efficient.

The cost of the motors are the same. Cost of pump and tubing are the difference. plus upkeep and maintenance.

For the record, both of our industrial mills use an air cooled spindle. The industrial router uses a water cooled. I think its more about it operating within its design parameters than one being explicitly better than the other.

OK thanks for the info Derek. I think the air cooled motor will work for me.
