could i cut a 12x12" circle into the middle of the bed? if i do the same to my table, then i could mount my segmented bowls and vased under the spindle and cut them accordingly. will it kill stability or precision? theoretically (in my small brain) it should be possible. but better ask first the bowls i mount can be pretty big. so it will be good if i can just mount one side under, cut a 5x3" pocket and then fill it with an inlay and put it back onto the lathe again.

Technically it's possible, yes. There's not a tremendous amount of stability added by just the center of the bed.

Your best bet is to create a circular template that you follow with a palm router and fix it t the bed because the machine probably won’t have enough plunge to machine through the entire bed. You will need to cut the T tracks down as well, before trying to route out by hand.
I didn’t understand the other part of the question.

yes, my idea was a palm router. is 12x12 inch a good size or too big? need to be from dead center middle point? or should it be a square? i have no idea about the static in such a construction.
i'm willing to do it tho.

I can't make any promises on it sense its just not something we tested. A one foot circle may be a bit too big.

A one foot circle may be a bit too big. how about 10" or 8"? i think 8" is the absolute minimum. i could then even try to build some rolling desk with level changing feet so i can roll it above my lathe and cnc the stuff on the lathe. but that's a bit futuristic. i should learn CNC inlays first, then we can think about cutting it 8 or 10"

I'm guessing you have the carve king cause derek mentioned the t tracks above. Curious if you have the mdf or starboard bed. If you have the starboard bed, I wouldn't cut into that super sweet material. But if you have the mdf bed I'd go for it.
You could easily fab another bed from mdf with extra thickness/ added layer to add stability. Not sure if derek offer replacement beds if you don't want to go through the trouble of fabbing one. Would be super sweet to see you cut bowls and vases.
I'm thinking you could use cnc itself to cut the 12x12 hole with the right length end mill and/or the router mounted low enough in the mount.
