I'm wondering if there's an optimal position to have the router in, within its mount. Right now I have it kind of in the middle, mostly so I can access the spindle lock for changing bits. But I'm wondering if it's ok to have it up higher, to gain a bit more clearance now that I have a spoil board installed and lost half an inch to that. Here's what it looks like on mine right now. I'm worried that if i have the mount too low or too high, it might cause the router to wobble a bit.

There’s not exactly an optimal position since it kind of depends on a couple of factors, but I can’t say that you would be OK to move that up a little bit.

I took that black collar off of the shaft because I thought it was hitting some of the screw heads on the Z-axis plate, setting the whole thing out of plumb. When I put it back in I realized that the area where the router flares out (above the black collar in this photo) would hit the same screws so it really can't go too much lower. I was able to move it slightly. I got it to a position I think I'm happy with, a bit lower than this. Bits should bottom out just below the bottom of the spolboard's surface, so it's about as low as I can go and still plunge all the way through something.
