How can this be repaired? When I push it in it just comes back out.

There are a pair of set screws on the ball nut that hold it in. It's possible they backed off from vibration or the bushing pulled free. Loosen the screws, spin the bushing in, snug the screws. They are tiny, mine are hex/allen but it seems like slotted is pretty common. Things you learn when you are a doofus and let it unscrew, requiring you to figure out how to repack the balls.
